Richard Fleeshman with the Original 'Molly' Understudies in Ghost the Musical |
THE VOTING PERIOD HAS NOW ENDED.
Click Here to find out who won
Without understudies the West End would be in chaos... in fact it would not even be able to function! That is why I decided our May poll should be voting for 'West End Frame's Understudy Of The Year 2012'! It was so hard to choose 20 nominees as there are so many incredibly talented understudies in the West End of whom I have a lot of respect for, I do not know how they do what they do.

ReplyDeleteSo true - she is soooo good!
DeleteYou've clearly not seen Jenny Gayner as Roxie Hart in Chicago at the Garrick - there can be no other winner of this poll than her! Amazing star quality performance that deserves to be recognised by top billing.
DeleteLAUREN VARNHAM FOR WE WILL ROCK YOU-BLINKIN AWESOME
DeleteGO LAUREN!
Samuel Edwards is just amazing. If he doesn't get the role full time soon west end theatre would have made a grave mistake.
ReplyDeleteBest understudy I have ever seen and I have seen many.
Unfortunately, it looks like he'll have to go on XFactor or BGT to get a lead in the West End at the moment... Wont be long till that dancing dog is playing Javert...
DeleteSamuel Edwards has to be the best understudy in the west end by a mile. His performance on Ghost is breath-taking! Amazing. And he is so young. Gunna be a huuuuuuuge star!
ReplyDeleteSAM SAM SAM!
ReplyDeleteRebecca Trehearn is such a good understudy! She has the same magic Caissie Levy did!
ReplyDeleteRebecca To Win!!!
Sam Edwards all the way. His performance in Ghost was hauntingly good. He's going to be a huge star. His dad's a talented actor, too, and was great in the Wizard of Oz. So it must run in the family!
ReplyDeleteSince when has Sam's dad been an Actor???
DeleteObviously doesn't know him well or his family!
DeleteThink they are confusing him with someone else
DeletePersonally think that Rebecca Trehearn is the best U/S ever, Such a powerful voice & Owned the stage like a leading lady!
ReplyDeleteGo Sam!
ReplyDeleteOne name - alice fearn.
ReplyDeleteTravrsty ross hunter not on here for Galileo understudy performances in we will rock you! (maybe have to be current understudy?) Lauren also awesome scaramouche

ReplyDeleteJenny Gayner is the obvious choice. Top class actress and breath taking singer.
ReplyDeleteStunning actor with great talent and diversity
DeleteJenny Gayner as Roxie Hart - blown away. Great comic actress but brings a real three dimensional Roxie to the stage. She truly earns her stripes.
ReplyDeleteJenny Gayner is pure class! Amazing all rounder. She has to win xxx
ReplyDeleteAARON LEE LAMBERT!!! Hocks go a mile up!
ReplyDeleteNo-one that has see Jenny Gayner as Roxie Hart in Chicago can honestly vote for anyone else but her - she's amazing and deserves the credit for the outstanding performance she gives in the role she has played so many times now!
ReplyDeleteAaron Lambert is an extraordinary performer! He is a talent that will be known throughout the performing arts industry. Absolutely awesome...
ReplyDeleteJenny G all way. Awaiting her headlining. She should!

ReplyDeleteAll the way with jenny Gay
ReplyDeleteIts plain to see my votes for Jenny G
ReplyDeleteI went to see Chicago and did not realise that Jenny Gayner was not the real full time Roxy.
ReplyDeleteFantastic performance.
I have since seen again with the real lead and was dissappointed
Lawrie Alderman
Alice Fearn all the way. How she hasn't got Princess Fiona full time is beyond me. Go Alice
ReplyDeleteC xx
Emma Housley is amazing! Big support for her <3
ReplyDeleteIt has to be Sam Edwards, most amazing performance
ReplyDelete"I went to see Chicago and did not realise that Jenny Gayner was not the real full time Roxy.
ReplyDeleteFantastic performance.
I have since seen again with the real lead and was dissappointed"
Couldn't agree more - when will the producer realise that he already have the best Roxie working for him? Don't bother importing a 'name' - go for the best performer instead and watch the critics swoon.
I actually haven't seen that many of the choices but I chose Scott Garnham, he's brilliant as Enjolras.

EMMA HOUSLEY <3 <3
ReplyDeleteJenny Gayner is the clear winner here. I've seen her twice and loved it each time. From the look of today's Total Film the west end better hurry up and recognise her talent before she disappears to Hollywood.

ReplyDeleteEmma Housley's performance as Dorothy was brilliant. An excellent actress and singer.
ReplyDeleteEmma Housley!!! She's amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteSamuel Edwards is a superstar in Ghost. I heard that this time last year he was still at drama school.
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable performance from someone so young!
lauren varnham is the most amazing scaramouche
ReplyDeleteKaty Treharne is just stunning! Beautiful voice! A flawless performance!
ReplyDeleteYes she is the very best out there.
DeleteScott Garnham is amazing! Beyond brilliant as Enjolras (better than the principal)
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree! Scott is terrific!
DeleteJennies the best forget the rest
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! Jenny Gayner is outstanding as Roxie Hart - a perfect performance every time. She deserves to win, and win handsomely.
DeleteLAUREN VARNHAM IS THE MOST EXCITING SCARAMOUCHE I HAVE EVER SEEN WELL DONE LAUREN
ReplyDeleteJenny Gayner, defiantly gets my vote as Roxie Hart. She is the clear winner here!
ReplyDeleteI Agree Xx
DeleteScott Garnham is the best! So disappointed he won't be staying on as principal ... he's really been an amazing Enjolras, whenever he's gone on.
ReplyDeleteFoxy Roxie / Jenny Gayner all the way x
ReplyDeleteVote for Lauren please she is absolutely brilliant xx
ReplyDeletelauren varnham's definitely the best, hope she wins!!
ReplyDeletelauren varnham to win by far. didnt eveb have to think about it. shes a star!
ReplyDeleteLauren Varnham is awesome
ReplyDeleteKaty Treharne is out of this world. If you've heard her sing you'll know, she blows you away with her performances. Best Christine ever.
ReplyDeleteKaty Treharne all the way, amazing voice, heart and soul. Katy to win.
ReplyDeleteKaty trehearne as Christine in Phantom is such a talent. We need to see more of that talent
Deletekaty Treharne unbelievable takes the roof off with those big notes she is amazing
ReplyDeleteJenny Gayner plays Roxie with passion ,what an outstanding performance raising the audience from their seats with a standing ovation. Well deserved ;
ReplyDeleteSeen We will Rock You many many times Lauren Varnham played Scaramouche with real attitude and passion, Meat with carasima and stage presesce even ensamble sticks out a mile, the face those doey brown eyes and a smile that lights up the stage even if you are at the back of the theatre. A small petite person with such strong booming voice. Trust Me totally awesome a must see. not sure why an understudy out shines and out performs time and time again.
ReplyDeletePerformance or a name? what would you like to see and hear? a totally superior voice with cant take your eyes of her stage presents or somebody that came in the top 10 of xfactor or an imported name. Well we want to be Rocked off our seats and Entertained all performance long for our money. Dont take my word for it go see for yourself, go see WE WILL ROCK YOU after you have voted for LAUREN VARNHAM of course who should be leading lady Scaramouche. Come on Mr Elton what are you doing. Lauren Rocks our socks off
ReplyDeletegreat to see real talent get there without any help or contacts in the business, just hard work and her own talent unlike many of the I've had the door opened for me understudies Katy treharne hard work and talent you deserve it .
ReplyDeletedont think many people knew the vote was going on until yesterday looks like it was a secret for some people for some reason
ReplyDeletewell a lot of people found out at the same time and all voted simultaneously then
ReplyDeleteHave been recording the voting trend very interesting if you extrapolate and track the two highest scores and how they have reacted to Katy's votes coming in a nice predictable pattern ouch
ReplyDeleteSimultaneous definition , occurring, operating or done at the same time, votes at lunch time 375 , at finish time 520,and now 565 so how did 400 votes happen simultaneously exactly, duh? I don't think so All absolutely above board it's not a secret anymore luvees
ReplyDeleteanyway... back to the talent which is what understudy of the year should be about...
ReplyDeleteI think Nikki Davis-Jones is incredible! She should definitely take over from Rachel. She has a different tone to previous Elphie's and makes Defying Gravity sound effortless!
Exactly and no matter who is in the lead or trailing all of the above understudies are highly talented and deserve recognition
ReplyDeleteAgreed! Its nice to see these people getting reconised for what they do as normally its just the leads who win awards. It must be so fustrating to be so talented yet be in the ensemble and only occasionally getting to perform a lead role. So much respect for what all of these people do!!
ReplyDeleteI notice the 4th may posting with reference to the particular understudies famous father has been removed
ReplyDeleteThere is a comment on the 5th of may about Sam Edwards dad being famous, was there another one aswell?
DeleteSo, I can see now that it's pretty unlikely that Scott Garnham ends up winning this one, but just to state my personal opinion: he's /the best/ on this list, hands-down, and I desperately wish he were staying with the show as principal Enjolras after the cast change. Hopefully he comes back someday and gets the opportunity to really shine in Les Mis. =)
ReplyDeleteKaty all the way she is outstanding and from our home town deep in the welsh valleys, enough said really she is perfect lots of love Katy Scott an craggy x
ReplyDeleteIf there is any justice in this world, Katy should win. For her talent, hard work and integrity. The others may be very good, but really,Katy is excellent.
ReplyDeleteErm nearly a thousand votes in a matter of hours, a good and fair battle with Lauren and Jenny close all the way and then all of a sudden in comes Katy, well anything is possible my money is now on David Bardlsey no votes but only a few hours to go i am sure he can pull in just over a million votes, enough said. Fair and square! ahem, any way well done Lauren Varnham great to see last week. also well done Jenny fair to the end.
ReplyDeleteHave a simmer love
DeleteKaty to win!
ReplyDeleteshe is obviously very popular half of the welsh valleys have been to see her so not surprising really small town girl come good syndrone the grapevine over here is immense very fair I would say meeeeeow

DeleteHas Wales been asleep for 3 weeks or why have the valleys all chosen to vote today
DeleteI only found out about this today! These things take time to get around
DeleteThe reason this poll was set up was to celebrate the work of understudies in the West End. These people keep shows going and I for one have ALOT of respect for them. Can I remind you that this space is to comment about the understudies. Rude, personal and off-topic comments will be removed.
ReplyDeleteThank you for supporting West End Frame.
looking through all the comments, nobody has been rude, no mention of off topic comments.
ReplyDeleteMaybe that's because they got deleted? hahaahaaaa
DeleteGood luck Katy :-)
ReplyDeleteEveryone is supporting you back at home Katy!! Xxxx
ReplyDeletewhile someone people moan when they find out understudies are going to be on I always get excited! The West end's understudies are always amazing! Nice to see people talking about them!
ReplyDeleteif you read earlier posts it would appear that katy and her fans only knew yesterday to be fair to them
ReplyDeleteYep Katy only found out a few days ago and put it on her Facebook page today to vote! Good lucky to all the nominees, making the top 20 in the West End is still an amazing achievement!!
ReplyDeleteVoted for Lauren Varnham she is awesome as Scaramouche and just as good when playing Meat.....when she sang only the good die young you could hear a pin drop any every single person transfixed on the stage. amazing talent and deserves to be Lead role in the show with out a doubt.
